[s7s] Hm.
Is it me, or is it strange that there are no reviews of Swashbucklers of the 7 Skies on RPGNow or DriveThruRPG?

Does anything much get reviewed there? I don't recall seeing much in the way of feedback on the books that I've worked on...

It's only you if you've actively been telling people you will make them walk the plank if they do.

Sadly, it's very much pot luck. One would have hoped for a couple by now though.

Houses of the Blooded has been out for almost a year and there has been one--count them, one--review on RPG.net.

That's, like, INSANE.

Solidarity, bro.

Nope, not weird at all. I have to pull teeth to get reviews on there.

I'd shoot up a quick one, but I didn't order from there so I can't.

Alas.

(I did, however, toss up a short little review on Indie Press Revolution. I also did two entries for it on my blog recently, so some stuff is out there.)

It could, of course, be both. ;)

I find it stranger that there is no review on RPGNow. If you send Ken Hite a copy for free, he'll write a glowing review. ;) Hmmm... I've never written a review before, but I could happily do so on RPGNow.

Ken's good, but he gets a lot of stuff to look at so it takes a while for anything to work through his system. Um.

RPGNow reviews are indeed (usually) pretty short. I suspect a lot of people only look at the product's overall star rating - that certainly helps to distinguish a product in a list.

RPGnet reviews are possibly the best of all to get, but very much in the lap of the gods.

I'm not sure how many folks have bought it from rpgnow/Drivethru, but my understanding is that in order to do a review of a product, you've got to be a "verified purchaser".

That being the case, it means that only reviewers or folks that have actually bought it from that site are going to say anything.

As a fellow that's bought a fair amount of electronic product over the years, I've got to say that one reason why I don't bother doing a "review" of it is because I usually don't see a lot of point to it.

Most producers of product don't seem to have anything to say in response and in general I've given up on reading reviews of stuff from rpgnow unless it's from a Staff Reviewer because all the other reviews seem to be a one or two sentence "I liked it" or "I didn't like it" without any sort of real information. You've got no idea _why_ the person in question likes/dislikes this or that aspect or what their biases are.

RPG.net... *shrug* I don't see much point to doing a review there because everyone wants to review stuff it seems, and most of it is based on "I read the book" as opposed to Actual Play.

Doing a proper review is a lot of work, especially if you want to do your review based on actually playing/running/using the product in question. You've got to be lucky enough to be blessed with a group that's willing to be guinea pigs amongst other things; I've yet to come up with such a group for myself.
