Made for the cartoon, but next time I see the movie, I may try this.

Perfect example of why you can't trust Roger Ebert's Jim Emerson's review of Speed Racer:

To us, this show was just filler between after-school reruns of "Gilligan's Island" and "The Munsters." We watched it because it was on, and it was in color.

Anybody who considered Speed Racer filler and The Munsters and freaking Gilligan's Island the meat...

I. Have. No. Words.

(If he'd said The Addams Family, Batman, or Star Trek, I might be able to agree mildly. But then, the latter two were definitely not in rerun when Ebert was a lad.)

Heh. I think you'd get a normal bingo pretty quickly, and you'd be well on your way to a full card by the end of the movie.

We disagree about many things, but I ignore it cause you seem to genuinely have a good soul. Lord knows, a lot of the ladies I adore speak highly of you.

But you did NOT just lump the Munsters in Gilligan. I shall force myself to pretend I never saw that.

Tell me this, please, as I know nothing of the Speed Racer movie and am too poor to see films...the chimp is my fave character in the cartoon. Is he in the movie?

The chimp is in the picture, Spritle is in the picture, and both of them stow away in the Mach 5's trunk.

Yes, the Wachowskis' know their matierial.

While I have to say that I find The Munsters much inferior to The Addams Family, you do have a point: lumping them in with Gilligan is unfair.

And there is not just Chim-Chim, but Monkey-Fu and Monkey Poo Fu.

Okay now. Let's keep our heads cool. Speed Racer was an awesome cartoon, and the movie was fantastic, yes. On that we can all agree.

But let's not get so crazy that we start dissing on the Munsters and the Addamses. Alright? ;)

That's not Roger Ebert! That's some other dude named Jim Emerson who's been posting his own reviews on Ebert's site while Ebert was recovering from surgery. Personally, I think Speed Racer is exactly the sort of movie Ebert and no other reviewer would like, due to the visuals alone (see also: The Cell; Phantom Menace).

Look at it this way: if you get a sandwich, do you care most about the filler, or the stuff on either side?
