(yoinked from abeybaby)A new video frow Lawrence Lessig, exploring the respective "winnability" of Clinton and Obama versus John McCain. There's a key insight that Lessig points up that I hadn't fully considered. I'll extract it here: Clinton is running against Obama on the concepts of her greater experience and toughness. Well and good; in the primary season, that's her strategy (though I have huge cavils about her experience versus his when you pull in Obama's IL state legislature record). For the purposes of her argument, let's just accept her position at face value, though. If facing off against McCain in November, Clinton's "greater experience" and "toughness" fall completely apart. Experience: McCain's been in Congress three times longer than Clinton (25 yrs for him versus her 8). Toughness: McCain was a POW, imprisoned and tortured, during the Vietnam War... I'd have to say that he wins on the toughness front hands down. So, if Clinton becomes the Democratic candidate, she loses the general election on the ground she's staked against her opponent in the primary. Check the video out. Tags: reference
