So, I've been considering building an
S7S wiki as a freebie, add-on resource and fansite.
The basic idea is that it could serve as a mostly setting-driven "appendix" to the main gamebook, where
S7S GMs and Players could add materials from their campaigns to a sort of "atlas" of the World of the 7 Skies. Entries would deal with Minor Islands, weird beasts, mysteries, famous/infamous NPCs, etc., that they've run across in their adventures.
I'm thinking of
not including canon setting material from the book, just page refs to that material... but player contributions on canon materials could be added:
"When visiting the Isla del Mara on Barathi, visitors avoid drinking
faustina, which is the local kelp wine. It is much stronger than the typical Barathi vintages, and the islanders take perverse glee in hiding this fact from tourists."
While I'm hip to having game stats and rules mechanics as (textboxed) parts of entries, I'm unsure if I should encourage pure/non-setting-relevant rules tweaks... it kind of breaks the "atlas" or "travelogue" vibe I want to encourage.
(Heck, you could probably even play a
S7S-based
Lexicon variant using such a thing.)
(Double-heck, people who like the game/setting but don't have a group could effectively have some "freeform" play using the wiki.)
Two questions, as I noodle the idea:
1. Does this sound like an interesting thing that you'd enjoy reading and/or participating in? Or do you think it will languish, unloved and ignored?
2. I'm considering using a
Creative Commons License for such a wiki, but am having trouble identifying which one would be best for the wiki intent, protection of my canon
S7S IP, and protection of contributors' contributions.
I
think Attribution Non-commercial Share Alike (by-nc-sa) or Attribution Non-commercial (by-nc) would work for these purposes, since none of my gamebook-text will be appearing on the wiki. The license would only cover wiki materials.
Anyone have any thoughts on the CCL issue?
Thanks!
